Introducing The Basics Series

Welcome to The Basics series, my answer to the question, ‘but how do I even start??’ Based on my own hobbies and interests initially, in this series I aim to break down how to start a certain project or learn a new skill, hobby or habit without too much fluff or unnecessary information for a beginner. Simple, concise, hopefully helpful is the goal.

I have a lot of hobbies, interests and areas of my life that I’m trying to improve, and most of the time, it would have been really handy to have a starter guide. A ‘This 101’ if you will. In this series, I aim to break down how to start a podcast, set up a budget, pick up crochet, and other Kim-relevant hobbies (of which there are a few) in a simple and concise way. The goal is to help beginners pick up something new and enjoyable without feeling too overwhelmed.

The Basics series was inspired by this post where I explained exactly how I set up my podcast, Breakfast Chats. I was an absolute beginner and, in the post, I tried to demystify or simplify how you get from ‘absolute noob’ to ‘I have something on the internet now.’ I mean, I literally tell you what I googled, so…

The glowing pic of bebe Kim I chose for my podcast thumbnail.

The post ended up being really helpful at my new job where one of the project teams wanted to set up a podcast of their own. I was also able to give them advice on things that I’d learnt and practiced as I started to post episodes. So, to kick off The Basics series, I’ve created an updated post here about how to start a podcast with new details and tips that I’ve picked up along the way. It really is easier than you’d think.

In the coming weeks, the plan is to share a Basics guide for budgets, crochet and knitting, and how to get organised. I hope you like it! If there’s anything that you’d like to learn that you’ve seen me do, let me know if I should write a Cereal Basics guide for it.

P.S. Here’s the podcast that the team at work ended up producing! Listen to Untold.
